At St. Theresa’s Eregi Girls’ High School in western Kenya, 95 students were hospitalized due to an unidentified illness. Due to the disease, the legs of 95 students were paralyzed and the school was closed indefinitely.

It was reported that approximately 95 female students were hospitalized due to an undiagnosed disease in western Kenya.

According to local media reports, 95 students at St. Theresa’s Eregi Girls’ High School, located 374 kilometers northwest of Nairobi, fell ill. The students were hospitalized due to the disease, the cause of which has not yet been determined.

THEY BECAME UNABLE TO WALK

Regional education officer Bonface Okoth stated in his press release that the legs of 95 students were paralyzed due to the disease. Okoth said the students were taken to the hospital for medical attention.

SCHOOL IS CLOSED INDEFINITELY

Following the incident, the school was closed indefinitely following a meeting between school administrators and Ministry of Education officials. School officials announced that students can continue school after investigating what caused the disease and taking the necessary precautions.

BLOOD SAMPLES ARE BEING EXAMINED

Stating that blood samples were taken from the students to determine the disease, hospital officials said that the blood samples were sent to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) laboratories.
