Infection precaution from the Spanish government: Free condoms will be distributed to young people

Spain is preparing to distribute free condoms to young people as part of the fight against sexually transmitted diseases.

According to Euronews, Minister of Health Monica Garcia announced in her statement to the Senate Health Commission that the country is preparing to take an effective step in the fight against sexually transmitted infections. Minister Garcia said, “While the free vaccination option is being considered to prevent an infection, it does not make sense that an effective option such as condoms is not among the measures.” Suggesting that the cost of free condoms be covered by the public health system, Garcia emphasized that there is an increase in sexually transmitted infections across the country.

According to the Spanish official news agency EFE, the distribution of free condoms will target young people between the ages of 14 and 22. Young people will be able to obtain free condoms from pharmacies through their health cards.

In Spain, where local governments are authorized on health-related issues throughout the country, the ministry is expected to coordinate with local governments.

According to the report published by the Spanish Ministry of Health, there has been a serious increase in gonorrhea and syphilis infections in recent years. Chlamydia infections are also increasing noticeably. According to data from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, a similar trend is observed across Europe. In some European countries, such as France, measures are taken such as distributing free condoms for young people and the cost of this being covered by national health insurance.
