He gained national recognition for his portrayal of the iconic character Skollie in the TV series “Vyfster.” As well as his television fame, Ballot also appeared in theater productions for TRUK in 1965 and appeared in many films, including ‘Arsenal’, ‘Tant Ralie’s boarding house’ and ‘Orkney Snork Nie 2’. Later in life, Ballot ran an art gallery in Cape Town before retiring to a quieter life in the small Western Cape town.

On the fateful day of his death, Ballot was found in his bed by the South African Police Service (SAPS) after his neighbour, Artist Louise Gerryts, expressed concern about him not responding to her messages. Although the exact cause of death is unknown, there are claims that he may have had a heart attack.
