How did Jason Doig die?

The death of police officer Jason Doig in a shooting in South Australia has left emergency services across the country heartbroken.

The 53-year-old was allegedly shot dead while responding to a report at a rural property in Senior in the state’s south-east.

Police said another officer, Sergeant Michael Hutchinson, and the alleged attacker, Jaydn Stimson, were also injured in the shooting.

Sergeant Hutchinson underwent surgery on Friday and was expected to be discharged from hospital early next week.

Constable Rebekah Cass provided assistance to Mr. Stimson and Brevet Sergeant Doig, who died at the scene.

Tributes poured in from police forces, fire services and emergency workers across Australia, while the close-knit community of Lucindale turned out to the station to leave flowers and share their condolences.

Sergeant Doig has been on the force for decades, but more than 10 years ago he was the officer in charge of the Lucindale Police Station.
