Jay Slater’s cause of death has been revealed!

Spanish authorities stated that the body found in a remote part of the island of Tenerife belonged to missing British teenager Jay Slater, and that the injuries he suffered were due to an accidental fall.

“Identification is positive… Fingerprints confirm that the body is that of Jay Slater and that death resulted from multiple trauma consistent with a fall in the mountainous area,” the court spokesman said.

The same spokesperson had previously stated that it would take a few days for the autopsy results to be available.

Mr Slater’s mother Debbie acknowledged the “worst news” in a statement through British overseas missing persons charity LBT Global.

“I just can’t believe this could happen to my beautiful boy” the statement read. “Our hearts are broken.

The body was found on Monday morning by a Civil Guard mountain rescue group.

Mr Slater, 19, went missing on June 17 and his phone was last traced to the Masca Ravine in a remote national park on the Canary Islands archipelago.

Missing persons charity LBT Global said on Monday the remains were found with the teenager’s possessions and clothes and it is understood it was discovered close to the site of his mobile phone’s last location.

Chief executive of LBT Global, Matthew Searle, said it would help repatriate Mr Slater’s body and belongings and make funeral arrangements.

“There will, of course, be many more hurdles for the family to face in the coming days and we will work with them to make this horrific time as easy as possible” he said.

Spanish police said they had ended a search for Mr Slater on June 30.

Dozens of officers, rescue workers and volunteers using dogs, drones and a helicopter had been involved.

However, on Monday they said Guardia Civil officers had maintained a “continuous and discrete search” in the area for the whole 29 days.
