Is Italian star Sophia Loren dead?

Oscar-winning actress Sophia Loren underwent emergency surgery after she fell in the bathroom of her home in Switzerland.

His manager, Andrea Giusti, told the PA news agency that the 89-year-old had multiple “serious fractures” in different parts of his hip and femur.

Loren’s rep also confirmed that Loren’s sons Carlo and Edoardo Ponti were also at her bedside.

A spokesman told Reuters the surgery “went well, now he just needs to rest and everything will be sorted out.”

Loren went on to have a long career after being born into poverty in Naples. She became a Hollywood star and won an Oscar in 1962 for La Ciociara (Two Women), Vittorio de Sica’s film about the wartime rape of a mother.

This win was groundbreaking; It was the first time an actor or actress had won an Academy Award for a non-English language role.

He also starred alongside Hollywood big names like Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra and Cary Grant.

Loren also earned Oscar honors in 1990, and in 2021 her career was revived with her critically acclaimed performance in The Life Ahead, directed by Loren’s son Edoardo.

The star played a Holocaust survivor who bonds with a 12-year-old Senegalese immigrant.
