Foxborough resident Ranadall Ricketts was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident on Route 95 in North Attleborough on Monday afternoon. Randall Ricketts, 58, died when a Cadillac SUV crossing the south lane crashed into his car. The SUV driver fled the scene but was later arrested.
The fatal accident occurred around 4 pm on August 29, near Exit 7 of Route 95. According to the Massachusetts State Police, 50-year-old Joseph Pompei crashed into the rear of his Cadillac Escalade while driving south in his Buick sedan, causing the accident. Grass to change direction towards northbound traffic from the central median.
The out-of-control Escalade then collided head-on with Ricketts’ Jaguar. The devastating impact killed Ricketts on the spot. He was pronounced dead by first responders after attempts to resuscitate him tragically failed.
The 61-year-old Escalade driver from Providence was admitted to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two passengers, a woman and a 5-year-old child, were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Pompeii allegedly fled the scene before being caught
After causing a fatal chain crash, the driver responsible was charged with fleeing the scene. Witnesses reported seeing Pompeii get out of his Buick, shrugged, then drove away with a flat tire and damage.
A few hours later, police found Pompeii with his battered vehicle in Attleboro, MA. He is currently facing multiple charges, including motor vehicle murder and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Pompeii denied the charges during his trial and claimed he was not involved in the accident that killed Ricketts. But investigators say roadside assessments show clear signs of deterioration. Pompei remains in jail on $50,000 bail.
